The Homecoming Subcommittee spent many hours fine tuning the details of for our Lehigh Hanson Rendezvous 2011 Homecoming event. The sun shone on July 16th so we were off to a great start. The day began with registration, refreshments and visiting at Servus Credit Union Place. People picked up their lunches and passports, boarded busses and began their tour to an assortment of selected sites in St. Albert.
During their visit, each person presented their passport and answered a skill-testing question about the site. As a reward for their participation, they became eligible for a door prize to be awarded at the evening dinner at St. Albert’s new hot spot — The Enjoy Centre.
Guests had the choice of either an entire day of activities or dinner only. There was plenty of time to view the photos and print memorabilia on display and to visit with family and friends. Mark Pesklewis set up an area to take photos of the attendees; NAIT provided the catering and wonderful music was supplied by the St. Albert Community Band Flute Ensemble before dinner and The Helena Magerowski Quartet after dinner.
Jackie Rae Greening called everyone to order so we could begin our evening portion of the event. The Honourable Thelma Chalifoux and Sister Simonne Mageau offered a prayer and blessing. The national anthem, performed by the St. Albert Singers, was sung in French, English and Cree. Everyone enjoyed the comfort food meal that concluded with the singing of “Happy Birthday,” cake (which just disappeared) and chocolate logo cookies.
The Quilters’ Guild presented their “Signature Quilt” to the Mayor — a legacy work of art!
The evening concluded with music, visiting and the passport and door prizes given to the winning ticket holders.
Guests had taste of the past, present and future throughout the day.
Thanks to everyone who planned, implemented, volunteered, sponsored and worked to provide this special day during the 150th Anniversary.
