Record-Breaking Rendezvous:
A must-attend event in 2011

When’s the last time you took a stroll down to the St. Albert Farmers’ Market? Last Saturday was a chilly day for market visitors; they were genuinely surprised to be greeted by a warm, cozy and adorable bison named Moostoos. The mascot of the Rendezvous 2011anniversary celebrations takes his name from the Cree word for bison, and true to the prairie bison’s image of a magnificent creature, he didn’t fail to impress the crowd. In fact, the over-sized, wooly mascot helped warm everyone with his hearty handshakes and affectionate hugs.

Moostoos, along with Mayor Crouse and a few City officials and members of the St. Albert 150th Anniversary Celebration Committee, were on hand at the St. Albert Farmers’ Market Saturday to officially announce the city’s attempt to break a Guinness World Record of 22,323 people at an outdoor family picnic in August of next year. That’s right — the city is trying to set the world’s record for the largest family picnic ever right here in the Sturgeon River valley! The Mayor also raised a toast to a year of successful planning for the 150th anniversary logo.

St. Albert's 150th anniversary celebrations mark a special milestone in the community’s history. The picnic is one of the most unique things to ever happen in St. Albert. The Committee wants to encourage everyone to mark your calendar, tell everyone you know — family and friends — to join the fun and attend the picnic. You’ll want to be able to say, “I was there when St. Albert set a world record.”

The River Valley Record-Breaking Picnic on Sunday, August 28, 2011 will bring local residents and visitors from Alberta and beyond into St. Albert’s beautiful Sturgeon River Valley to enjoy a myriad of outdoor activities and demonstrations found along the river from Big Lake to Kingswood Park.
